About Sue Brewis

Equine Facilitated Human Development

Sue Brewis is an Equine Facilitated Human Development (EFHD) practitioner and Traumatologist based in the Scottish Borders a few miles from Coldstream.

Having grown up in Hong Kong, Sue started her career as a Secondary School PE teacher, working in both Hong Kong and the UK. After taking time out to raise a family, she began volunteering at a Riding for the Disabled (RDA) centre in the Scottish Borders, coaching independent riding to disabled adults and equestrian vaulting to abled and disabled children.

It was during this time that she became fascinated by the emotional and psychological benefits people were experiencing during their weekly sessions with the horses. Aware of the role horses had played in overcoming personal challenges in her own life, Sue started to explore the horse-human connection, a journey which guided her to The International Foundation of Equine Assisted Learning (IFEAL) where she trained to become an Equine Facilitated Human Development Practitioner.

Sue continues to teach and is a member of the faculty at IFEAL, helping to deliver the Facilitator Training Programme, the first level 6 accredited Equine Facilitated Learning course in the UK.

Since embarking on her EFHDL career Sue has developed a special interest in trauma, primarily through her work with The Dare To Live Trust, which provides an education and life skills programme that aims to improve the wellbeing and ease the challenges many service personnel experience as they transition into civilian life.

EFHDL can benefit people of all ages and stages of life development, from children to their grandparents and everyone in between.  In addition to working with adults, Sue also works with younger age groups and is currently involved in developing additional wellbeing programmes for children, young persons and young adults.
